The Association of State Floodplain Mangers (ASFPM) has established a national program for professional certification of floodplain managers. The program recognizes continuing education and professional development that enhance the knowledge and performance of local, state, federal, and private-sector floodplain managers.
The Certified Floodplain Managers Program (CFM Program) has two primary goals:
- Help reduce the nation's flood losses and protect and enhance the natural resources and functions of its floodplains by improving the knowledge and abilities of floodplain managers.
- Increase the prominence of floodplain management in decision-making by loca officials and the public.
To learn more about how to become a CFM, see the ASPFM website at www.floods.org. The CFM exam is typically administered annually in Minnesota by DNR staff during the annual MNAFPM conference. Review sessions prior to the exam are also available. Contact Ceil Strauss, with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for more information at (651) 259-5713.
